Part 2, When I Am In My Own Way
Growing up, I always felt less than. I am not sure when that started, only that I was young when it took hold and marked my life for many years. Sadly, I carried feelings of unworthiness throughout childhood and into my late twenties. That is when, by God’s grace, I began to discover who I am from His divine perspective.
Unfortunately, I learned something else too… Old habits die hard. It took me a long time to learn how to push through feelings of guilt and inadequacy so I could talk myself through the false narratives that sought to define my vulnerable belief systems.
So, how do we get out of our own way and leave old patterns and assumptions that destroy our confidence and blur the holy vision God has for our lives? The English Standard Version of the Bible says, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
When I allow the sins of my past and unforgiveness for others to eclipse my view of God’s grace through His son, I put myself at odds with the Lord Himself. Whether by rebuke or blessing, God’s truth in my life is the divine antidote for whatever ails me. It is His truth that sets me free to accept God’s immeasurable forgiveness and grace. Friends, I am here for it!
