Gift of Love
For many, Christmas time is the most joyful season of the year. Lovers of Jesus are energized by the thought of the Savior coming into the world while others less enthusiastic, believe the nativity story to be a childhood fable trimmed with quaint endings, eggnog, and a pocket full of gift cards.
When the angels of Heaven took to the night sky proclaiming the birth of Christ, sleepy shepherds looked on, their unbelief vanishing as the heavenly host gave honor and glory to the Son of God. “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” Luke 2:14 (NKJV)
Jesus did not come into the world with gift cards to be spent and discarded. He came to bear our collective sins on His shoulders and give the greatest gift we could hope for – eternal life through His sacrificial death on the cross. I wonder, as God the Father looked at the tiny face of His human son, did He see the faces of a world of lost souls who would one day follow Him and sing the song of the redeemed?
